1986年の創業から、ブルネッロのパイオニアとして歩んできたエトリヴァン。 イタリアワインに始まり、アメリカワイン、シャンパーニュ、コーヒー、刃物へと広がる理念— 「まだ知られていない本物を、日本へ届ける」。
Etlivin - エトリヴァン 30年史は1986年に始まる。創業当時はワインと共にイタリア産アーモンド、ピスタチオなどを輸入していたが、1990年ころからはイタリアワインに特化にした。このころイタリア産ワインを専門的に扱う輸入業者は稀な存在で、エトリヴァンは従価税から従量税への移行期に多くの高級ワインを輸入した先がけだった。
1986年ー1990年代に輸入したワイナリーにはカステッロ・ディ・アマ 、アンセルミ、カンタルポ, チェレット, イル・ポッジョーネ, カザノーヴァ・ディ・ネリ, シロ・パチェンティ, ナダ・フィオレンツォ、マストロイアンニ, タレンティ, タスカ・ダルメリータ, イゾレ・オレーナ, モンテヴェルティーネ, ヴィエ・ディ・ロマンスなどがあり、これらの多くはエトリヴァンから離れてしまったが、日本市場でエトリヴァンと共に今も生き続けているワイナリーも少なくはない。特にブルネッロ・ディ・モンタルチーノに関しては自他ともに認めるパイオニアである。
エトリヴァンのこれから。今日までしてきたことだが、小さくとも無位無冠のワイナリーであっても一定の水準にあるものを日本に上陸させること。さらにエトリヴァン得意の「音楽シリーズ」のワインを充実させたい。今まではイタリア料理店を中心に売ってきたが、これからは様々な販売チャンネルを考えていきたい。よく「エトリヴァンは敷居が高い」いわれてきたが、これはむしろ「専門家」として誉められたと受けとめている。
最後にエトリヴァンの信条。「ワインは理屈が果てたところから始まる」。ワインの周辺にはソムリエ、ワインジャーナリズムなどワインを語る人たちがたくさんいるが、ワインの真実はワインみずからが語っているはずである。自然派であろうがなかろうが、ビオであろうがなかろうがおいしかったらどっちでもかまわないのではないか。
「時計屋の時計春の夜どれがほんと」久保田万太郎。この一句どこか今のワイン事情を言い当てている。
1999年、エトリヴァンはブルネッロ協会よりレッチョ・ドーロを受賞。

Since 1986, ETLIViN has been recognized as a pioneer of Brunello in Japan.
ETLIViN’s thirty-year journey began in 1986. At the time of our founding, we imported not only wine but also almonds, pistachios, and other Italian products. Around 1990, however, we shifted our focus entirely to Italian wine. Importers specializing in Italian wine were extremely rare during this period, and ETLIViN became one of the first to import many fine wines during the transition from ad valorem to quantity-based taxation.
Among the wineries imported during the late 1980s and 1990s were Castello di Ama, Anselmi, Cantalupo, Ceretto, Il Poggione, Casanova di Neri, Siro Pacenti, Nada Fiorenzo, Mastrojanni, Talenti, Tasca d’Almerita, Isole e Olena, Montevertine, and Vie di Romans. Many of these wineries eventually went their own way, but several continue to thrive in the Japanese market side-by-side with ETLIViN. In particular, regarding Brunello di Montalcino, we can confidently say — and others acknowledge — that we were true pioneers.
Looking ahead for ETLIViN: We have always sought to introduce to Japan wines that—though small, though unknown, though without fame—nonetheless possess genuine quality. We also hope to further enrich the “Music Series,” which has become a hallmark of ETLIViN. Until now, our primary customers have been Italian restaurants, but we are committed to exploring new channels of distribution. People often tell us that “ETLIViN feels exclusive,” but we prefer to take this as praise: a recognition of our role as specialists.
Finally, our guiding belief: “Wine begins where logic ends.” Around wine are sommeliers, wine journalists, and many who speak about wine. Yet the truth of wine is something wine itself expresses. Whether natural or not, whether organic or not — if it is delicious, does anything else matter?
Mantaro Kubota’s haiku captures the wine world well: “Clockmaker’s clocks — on this spring night, which one is true?”
In 1999, ETLIViN became the first and only Japanese importer to receive this award.
